mwawAtepomaro (mwbain latino mwbqAtepomarus o mwbgAtepomaros) era una figura della mwbwmitologia celto-gallica, considerata come una guaritrice. A mwcaMauvières (nell'Indre), durante la mwcqdominazione romana della Gallia, mwcgApollo ne era associato nella mwcwforma cultuale di mwdaApollo Atepomarus.

In alcuni dei santuari curativi di Apollo (come a mwdgSainte-Sabine, in Borgogna) gli erano associate piccole figurine di mwdwcavalli.

Nome ed etimologia

Il titolo appare anche come mwewAtepomerus.cite-ref-1[1]

Gli studiosi suggeriscono che il nome sia un composto di mwgqat- (cioè "intensificatore"), mwgg-epo- (la parola celtica per "cavallo") e mwgw-marus ("grande dei grandi"):cite-ref-bousquet-2-0[2]cite-ref-3[3] pertanto, l'epiteto è talvolta tradotto come "Grande mwjaCavaliere" o "che possiede un grande cavallo".cite-ref-gricourt-4-0[4]cite-ref-5[5]

Pierre-Yves Lambert rifiuta il suo legame con i cavalli e suggerisce un'etimologia basata su *mwlgad-tepo, relativa a "protezione, rifugio".cite-ref-6[6]

Miti

Come fondatore

Un altro personaggio chiamato Atepomaro, assieme a un certo Momoro, fu la coppia di re celtici mwngfondatori della città di mwnwmwoaLugdunum (Lione). Fuggirono da Sereroneo, a nord, ed arrivarono su una collina nei pressi della mwoqSaona. Momoro, che aveva capacità di presagio, vide l'abbattimento di uno stormo di mwogcorvi (creature considerate importanti per mwowLúg) cadere lì, così chiamò la collina mwpaLougodunum ("il castello di Lug"), in onore degli uccelli deceduti in loco, e qui si stabilirono. Questo mito è riportato nelle opere di Clitofonte Rodio e nel mwpgDe fluviis dello mwpwPseudo-Plutarco.cite-ref-bousquet-2-1[2]cite-ref-gricourt-4-1[4]cite-ref-7[7]cite-ref-8[8]

Come teonimo

Il nome è anche un mwugteonimo legato alle divinità greco-romane Apollo e mwuwMercurio.cite-ref-gricourt-4-2[4]cite-ref-9[9]cite-ref-10[10] A Mauvières è stata rinvenuta un'iscrizione ad mwyaApollo Atepomarus, legato alla tribù gallica dei mwyqBiturigi.cite-ref-11[11]cite-ref-12[12]
